The Ping Caravan and Room 8

When the Ping caravan came to Ahipara School we could go on the games caravan or dance along to the videos. It was amazing being a dance avatar. We hope they will visit again next year!

Swim Safe lessons with Nancy 

Room 8 enjoyed water safety lessons with Whaea Nancy. We loved being turtles and trying different ways to float and keep safe in the water together. It was cool fun!

Having Fun with Measuring Volume and Mass

As part of our Maths learning, Room 8 was  finding out the volume of 3D packets by filling the space with  centimetre cubes. We learnt that we could not leave any spaces between them! This lead to. us calculating the volume of a 3D shape by multiplying the 3 dimensions of length, width and height. Having hands on materials was a lot of fun and made the learning so much easier.

To commence the year, room 8 explored what it means to be part of a team and what the phrase "Together Everyone Achieves More" really means. We learned that great things are achieved by listening to each other, encouraging our team, having a plan that we all work together on, and, including and valuing each team member. We liked the variety of team opportunities. It was easy to see the benefits of team work!

Room 8 Being Active in Level 3

 Room 8 has been in Level 3 lockdown at home. Our challenge for the Zespri Young and Healthy Virtual Challenge this week has been to be active. Here are two ways the kids stayed active.

Pet and Ag. Day 2021

 Pet and Ag. Day 2021

Room 8 took part in the school's Pet and Ag. Day. Because of Covid this year, we were unable to have the usual pet parade but we could bring a photo or video of our pet to display. As well as making vaseline saucers from flowers, we brought our home made exhibits to school for judging. Some of us made mini gardens or parks and some made mini scarecrows. Our made-in-class exhibit displayed our Crafty Creatures. We had learned about weaving and French knitting. Then we made these into creatures by making arms, legs, hair and googly eyes. What do you like?

Making Model Bird Shelters

Making Bird Shelters 

Room 8 children each developed a technology brief to construct a model bird shelter. We investigated available materials and the steps required in the process. We discussed the needs of birds and did a little bird watching around the school and at home. It was fun to spend most of a day at school, making our constructions to conclude this learning.
