Learning together about Persuasive Writing
Learning Together about Persuasive Writing
We have been learning to strongly express an opinion to get our point of view across to an audience. We have learned that everyone has an opinion that we either agree or disagree with. Often we need to give really good reasons for having that opinion and examples of each reasons. Here we are working together to write good reasons that support our opinion on the statement, " Girls are smarter than boys!"

Lock Down Nature Walks
Lock Down Nature Walks
In our Google Meet sessions we have talked about getting outdoors every day and going for a nature walk. We talked about taking photos of things we saw, especially Autumn things, and posting them on our blogs with a little writing of our own. Here are some Autumn Leaf nature walk photos that Mrs D took to motivate us to use our "nature eyes". We look forward to more photos being posted on the Room 8 student blogs.

Lots of Learning in Lockdown
Lots of Learning in Lockdown
With so much time at home, the children and parents/caregivers have been very busy creating things, writing stories about topics that interest them and spending a lot of time learning on the many educational websites that are chosen to extend their class learning.
Landon has been busy with his learning with the help of the family. We are impressed with the hut made of bamboo! Please add your comments too. Great work with getting. a Math certificate too!

Room 8 does Team Building
Room 8 does Team Building
Room 8 worked together in teams to construct a triangle of cups. We had to work together and move each cup one at time until the cups were balanced on top of each other.
We learned that teams become great when they talk about how they will do the construction before they do it. We also learned that we need to be patient and not just think about ourselves. We have to listen to others and work with them.
Here is Landon working with his team to build a tower. |
Team Building out on the Field
Everyone got into a different group and talked about the best way to get a golf ball from one side of the field to the other side without dropping it. Our team leader lead the team for this activity. We were inspired by the chart about leadership below. If we dropped it we would have to start all over again. Each team member held a string and together we carefully walked forwards, pausing if we needed to. The winning team listened to each other and won the race!Monday, March 2, 2020
Sport with Matua Derek
Sport with Matua Derek
Each fortnight Matua Derek has been coaching us in game skills such as Ki o Rahi. We really had to listen to the instructions and watch carefully as he drew the game plan on the whiteboard. It was a fast paced game!

Water Safety 2020
Water Safety Fun
Matua Caleb took us for some fun lessons that would help us survive if we found ourselves in deepwater with a life jacket on. Ahipara has the beautiful 90 Mile Beach close to our homes and school so we really need to know how to keep afloat and help each other.
We learned how to rescue people by using rigid items such as a noodle and rope. |
